Professional Bio

Mark Ortiz is a geographer and scholar-advocate with research interests spanning youth politics, social movement studies, storytelling methods, and climate justice. He is currently a Presidential Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Geography at Penn State, where he works on research surrounding transnational youth climate justice activism. Beginning in July 2024, Mark will be moving into an expanded role as Assistant Professor of Geography, Climate Justice, and Youth Movements at Penn State. He will also be a Co-Funded faculty member within the Institute of Energy and the Environment and the Social Science Research Institute at Penn State. Mark is the Creator and Director of the Global Youth Storytelling and Research Lab (The GYSRL) at PSU that aims to bridge youth-centered research, education, storytelling, and policy advocacy.
